Sex and the City
There were few press screenings of Sex and the City, so I queued out the door – like everyone else – with a big group of girlfriends to get the golden ticket. This was the only film so far this year that I had been waiting to see with baited breath.
Having watched the TV show religiously, it showed me the kind of glamorous lifestyle that I wanted, and reflected my hopes for the future. The film version of this popular series is a wonderful closing chapter to all of those years spent devoted to the girls and their trials and tribulations.
So we know the plot-spoilers: Miranda is cheated on by Steve; Charlotte gets pregnant; Samantha gets bored with Smith; And Big and Carrie FINALLY decide to get married.
Sex and the City is true to the characters we know and love. Its script is as witty and on the edge of decency as ever. Be warned, your fellow cinema-goers laugh so loudly you barely catch all of the jokes.
However, what I wasn’t prepared for is the depth of feeling I had towards the film. It’s difficult to describe and you do feel a little foolish, but these characters have had your heart, tears, sympathy and laughter for so long, that it matters. There’s history there.
In all honesty, Sex and the City is longer than it needs to be. But its plot really takes you through the whole gamut of emotions: the good, the bad and the ugly. I’ll only mention one word: Charlotte.
Is it a happy ending? You’ll have to see it to find out. But one thing’s for sure, this film doesn’t disappoint.
Sex and the City is out now in UK cinemas.
